Baby Stuff!

I'm trying not to go too crazy with buying things for the baby, but I couldn't pass up a few great deals! Here's a pictures of a giraffe I got at a consignment sale that Leslie and I went to a couple of weekends ago. He just needed some minor ear surgery, and now he's as good as new!

Also, we sold some of our things in Liz and David's neighborhood yard sale yesterday and ended up spending more than we made, but we got great deals on this umbrella stroller and rocking chair. The plan is to sand and stain the rocking chair because it has some scratches on it, and to either replace the cushions or add some padding to them and recover them. We got the supplies at Lowes this morning, so we're ready to get to work!

If anybody wants to use any of this stuff in the meantime, you're more than welcome to borrow it. Just let us know!

my dissertation

My dissertation was approved by the graduate school this afternoon, so I've officially completed all my degree requirements for the PhD.

In the really really rare case that you want to see the actual dissertation, I've attached a link to it here.

Second ultrasound

We went this morning for a second ultrasound. As many of you probably already know, they don't normally do a second one so early, but there was some discrepancy in the due date between what the first ultrasound showed and what we were thinking, so they wanted to do a second one this week just to make sure everything is all right. And, yes, everything is fine! The due date is officially October 21st now, not the 10th, and I think that makes me around 9 weeks now, not 11. I am a little sad that this will mean more waiting (which is difficult for me anyway), but what's 11 more days in the grand scheme of 9 months? I guess not too much!

And the baby looks great! We saw it moving around a lot more this time and Bob thought he saw it suck its thumb! Bob called it a "she"- not sure what that was all about. It was fun to see the baby again "for free"!

Also, Bob got to meet the famous Dr. V and he was a huge hit, much better than Lucie the midwife last time. Dr. V is VERY mellow so I knew Bob would like him. Plus he gave us an anatomy lesson while we were there that was pretty interesting.

First Ultrasound Picture

Here's the first ultrasound picture of our little one - we're going back on Monday for another ultrasound to get a better idea of the due date.

So here we are...

Well, Bob has finally gotten me into the 21st century, though it was quite a struggle. If you are reading this, then you know our big news - we are having a baby! Though there isn't a whole lot to report right now, we will use this blog to post information and pictures as we have them.

But for now - all we know is that there is just ONE baby, it is due sometime between October 10th and October 21st, it seems to be doing fine, and right now we don't think we will find out if it's a boy or a girl. That could change sometime in the next 8-10 weeks before the ultrasound that would tell us, but for now we think we would like to have a surprise. And won't it be an exciting surprise?

I have been feeling pretty good, some GI problems but nothing that keeps me from my daily life. It will be nice when that is over and I can feel normal again. I haven't had a lot of problems with being tired, but I am getting about 10 hours of sleep a night on most nights, so that might be helping!

As far as other stuff, you who know us know that we don't have a lot of excitement in our lives, but that has changed recently! Bob will defend his PhD dissertation on Friday, the last step in a LONG academic journey. I will graduate at the end of July with my nursing degree and will get a job at some point (TBD on when, though I do have an interview next week). Bella is happily oblivious to all of this and to the new baby news, but that will change in 7 short months!

So, feel free to comment and question us as much as you want and we will try our best to keep everyone updated! We also welcome any and all parenting tips, name suggestions, etc.

Welcome to our blog!

We'll try to keep you up to date with our happenings through this blog.
