Camcorder and Dresser

After some deliberation, I ordered a camcorder for the family yesterday - it's a Canon ZR950. It should be here in a couple days.

I also spent most of yesterday working on the dresser. As Gina had mentioned earlier, the polyacrylic was starting to flake in spots. While I'm still not exactly sure of the reason, I got rid of all the bad areas and recoated it. Initially, it looks good (though it did after I finished it a few months back), so we'll just have to see how it goes.

Check out the new poll to the right!

Cool camera, Bob. What kind of memory does it use for the video?

MiniDV

Camcorders are awesome. I wish we could find ours.

Yeah, the problem with the small ones is that you lose them. We need one of the big old shoulder-style ones that takes a full size VHS tape.

So with miniDV, your computer has to be able to work with it, right? I mean you have to transfer it using firewire or something and your computer has to be *good* enough to handle the files?

Yup - I've got firewire on my desktop at home, and from what I've read MiniDV provides the best platform to extract/edit/capture data from. I didn't want to splurge for the HD camcorder, and didn't want to spend a fortune on small DVDRWs, so I hope this will be a good compromise. A bit more work surely, but hopefully it is worth it.

That all depends on how cute your kid is. Let's hope he/she takes after Gina so that you won't have wasted your money.
